Okay, I'm introducing a new segment(?) here on my blog called "Track by Track," where I review albums...track by track. It's called TbT for short. I'm starting with an EP released through the Creative Commons license. It is free to download. This EP is "Hot Cha" by Love Story In Blood Red. Love Story In Blood Red is a band that, from what I can tell by the music on this EP, plays Acoustic Rock, with flavors of Country occasionally. It's a nice style. So, without further ado, let's look at this album TRACK BY TRACK!!!
The album starts with the song "Beautiful Mothers." It's a dark, mysterious way to start the EP, but the piano intro is long and drawn-out, I was ready for it to be over after about 20 seconds. The song is about a weird dream. The lead singer's voice helps carry this dark ballad. The creepiest line of the song is "Come back home," not for the words themselves, but for the way they're sung. The lyrics and piano carry this song, which is odd as there are very few lyrics for the run time. However, at one point, he starts screaming and it's almost metal-like. Kinda ruining the vibe, thar. This song gets a 8/10.
The next song is "Tell Heaven Hell's Coming With You." It starts with a bit of distortion, which sounds pretty odd. I thought there was something wrong with my headphones. It's a slow tune, but it's catchy. The vocals aren't as good as the last song, but they get the job done. There's also a distorted solo, which does more than sound better than the intro: it flat out rocks! Best part of the song, right there! Of course, like all songs it ends. How? With a long final chord that doesn't segue very well into the next song. Yay. This gets a 7/10 from me.
Now, we have "What's So Special." I like it, but some people might consider it album filler, as it is short, and sorta repetitive. It does have a great background vocal, though. The acoustic guitar in it is also pretty good. And, once again, we have a catchy tune! A really catchy tune! Heck, while I'm writing this, the dang thing is in my head with it's chorus! But, like the last tune, it doesn't segue well into the next song. 7/10
Finally, we have "Write A Happy Ending." It opens with powerful synth, and it's a really good intro. Heck, this song has a great melody in general. So much so, that I don't even care how long it is compared to the rest of these! And it has Steel Guitar used DECENTLY, it DOESN'T sound like generic Country Steel Guitar. Also, the bass is pretty rockin'. Overall, this song gets a 7.75. The album gets a 7.5/10. Do I recommend this? Knock yourself out, you can download it free! Link is below!
